Brazilian postal workers hold indefinite strike

Time:2018-03-13| Author:Jieyue Logistics Group

The employees of the postal and telegraph companies in Brazil started an indefinite strike on March 11. The strike was mainly to protest against working conditions and the government's attempt to privatize the mail service.

It is reported that this strike was approved by the Federation of Federal Workers and the Telegraph Company Federation representing postal workers on Sunday evening (March 11). Workers are required to hire new officials through public bidding and layoffs. As of Monday, March 12, the unions have not announced any relevant demonstrations, but if the government can not reach an agreement with them, they will be likely to hold protests and demonstrations.

According to the union, the average wage of mail workers is the lowest among all company employees in the Republic. At the same time, they also opposed the new measures proposed by the Brazilian Posts and Telecommunications Company, including the suspension of vacations, the removal of employees' parents, children and spouses from health plans, and the declaration of 2,500 branches across Brazil. All these have caused workers' dissatisfaction.
